  • I purchased a groupon that entitled me to a hair cut, wash/blow dry, and 12 highlights for $49. I called to make an appointment and the only time slot they had for after work hours or weekends was 430pm that was two weeks away. I arrived and was greeted by my hairstylist. Her name was stella from finland. I was told that I would be charged an extra $10-15 for long hair which is what was in the small print on the groupon website. I also inquired whether i could get two different shades of highlights. She said yes but they would charge me $30 for the two colors and long hair. So it was still 12 foils in total. We discussed the shades that I wanted and the length of hair cut/style I was looking for. So the hairstylist proceeded to put the highlights in my hair with foil alternating between the two shades of highlights. I was given magazines while I waited for the color to set. After the color had a chance to set in, I proceeded to get the chemicals rinsed out by the shampoo girl. They put a toner into my hair and rinsed it out. Afterwards, I received a hair cut. She asked if I wanted layers and I said no. She proceeded to give me a blunt cut. I thought there would be some shaping of the ends as I had received from other hairdressers but alas no. As for the bangs, i got them cut but also no shaping for the ends. Overall, my hair looks good. The highlights were well done - thin and natural looking as I specifically asked for with the two alternating shades. The disappointment was the hair cut - it was a very basic cut. I can't complain given that in total the highlights, cut, and shampoo cost $79 - what you would normally pay for a set of highlights only, however I did have introductory groupons for other salons where I paid $30 for the same thing and received better highlights and hair cuts (Capelli at Bayview village). The service was good and the people were friendly. However the ambiance lacked the feel of a high end salon. The furniture was dated, the wash stations made strange water gurgling noises, and the lighting had the feel of bright fluerescent lighting in your face. I've had hairdressers in the past spend more time on my hair cut and with more enthusiasm. I inquired about their other spa services and was immediately encouraged to book an appointment. The shampoo girl said I can book it and cancel if I couldn't make it. The whole experience felt very transactional and the look/feel of the place didn't help the situation. There was no ambiance but the hairstylist is competent and the results were ok - my hair looks decent. I've just had better hair cuts in the past where there was more attention to detail, regardless of the price i had paid.
