| - I strongly DO NOT recommend this company. Completely untrustworthy and do not finish what they start. Owner is disengaged and only serves as a collection agent.
My experience with KO was when they were doing a mid-size project for a neighbor. I walked over to speak to their salesman, nicknamed "Cowboy". As I was talking to him about a small tree I wanted a quote on, he pointed out a tree limb in the backyard of my neighbor's lot that was hanging over my yard and suggested that I talk to them about taking that tree limb out. In return, I would have a tree modified on my property that was dropping debris on theirs, plus taking out the small tree mentioned above.
A contract was quickly thrown in front of me and Cowboy tapped on the page at the signing spots and stated I "just need to sign here", and I mistakenly did not read the document in full. I was never given a copy of the contract, which also was my mistake. As it turns out, the scope of the project was changed significantly, as they never cleaned up the tree top which was dropping debris, but instead, I'd later learn, they took a few limbs from a different tree which in fact, was on my neighbor's property along with felling the small tree, and then called the job complete. I was waiting for them to come back to clean up the top of my tree as agreed, and even took a picture to show that no work had been done. A few weeks later, I received a call from the owner, Jason Phifer, who I'd never met. He was demanding payment for the job. I replied that I was waiting for them to complete their work. He stated the work had been completed, and we discussed the above. However, Jason continually rejected that Cowboy and I had agreed to a project which differed from the work actually performed, insisting that He "had done the work that [he] had agreed to" (despite Jason never actually being involved), and I need to pay them in full. My reply was that 2 trees were supposed to be modified on my property, and they had only done one, and I was waiting for them to complete the work. Jason complained about how he had lost money on the job, repeating how he "did the work that [he] had agreed to do". I was trying to make a reasonable settlement, but he completely refused to budge or acknowledge any responsibility in a misunderstanding. I stressed to him that the contract said 2 trees on my property would be modified, but he again insisted that he had done the work, that the work on my property involved a great deal of work and wanted his payment. However, there is a massive amount of debris on both my property and my neighbors; the equivalent of 2 large trees' worth of limbs have been left on my property and my neighbors, even though the contract clearly says they would haul that off.
While the work was not complete, I no longer felt it was worth fighting and I paid him in full. That said, this company's culture is abrasive, disrespectful, condescending, and extremely untrustworthy. If you need tree work, consider a more professional outfit like Keith "Tree Man" Norton or another reputable group.
Please consider this advice, KO Tree Service cannot be trusted to do what they say they're going to do, even when you have a contract.
