| - We went to Halal Guys for dinner last night and I was very disappointed.
We were really excited to try it out since there has been so much hype leading up to their opening. Also, as a Middle Eastern food lover, I was excited for a new concept to come to the valley. However, I'm not sure that you could really call this Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food.
They only have two options on their menu: a pita wrap/sandwich, or a platter. Then you have your choice of meat: chicken, gyro, or falafel.
I ordered the platter which automatically comes with shredded iceberg lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and yellow rice. Then they top that with the meat(s) of your choice and a few slices of pita. They serve average pita like the type you could get at the grocery store. Their sauce options include white sauce, which is a mayo-based sauce, spicy sauce, or tahini, although you have to specifically request tahini.
Their food is extremely bland, and it is severely lacking something fresh - which may sound strange because half of my plate was shredded lettuce, but it lacks some type of vinegar - whether it's pickles, olives, or some type of dressing. Also, their hot sauce is so spicy that you can't even enjoy it, I'm not sure why they bother making it. It would be nice if they had a few different types of hot sauce, maybe something along the lines of a mild herb-based sauce, a medium sauce, and then their extraordinarily hot sauce.
All in all, I won't be back. I'd rather go elsewhere and spend less for more flavor and more authentic food.
