The details: We had dinner entrees for 4 w/ 2 appetizers, and garlic naan. The building was nice and the atmosphere a bit dark (I need to see the food), but OK. It's rare to encounter an upscale Indian restaurant and we were excited to go. Reservations made via OpenTable.
Food quality: The food was pretty fresh (wonderful veg) and tasty. Complements to the kitchen staff.
Price: Entrees were $3-4 too expensive for the quantity / locaton / overall experience (especially the service). Had the service been polished and we had been made to feel special, it might have been OK.
Service: The waiters weren't rude, but it didn't seem like they were professionally trained or managed. It seemed to be a bunch of guys who had eaten at restaurants much of their lives and said "Hey... I can do that. You just ask what they want and bring food to the table. How hard can it be?" and then they got sick of not being tipped well (because the answer is: It's hard!) and they just stopped trying or they haven't figured out that their service is poor. No greeting at the front door. No waiter introduction. Menus were distributed quickly and then the staff left. No specials... no explanation... no question/answer. Just "What do you want?" Dishes were cleared quickly, but one at a time and at odd times, interrupting the conversation. Really... it just wasn't polished enough to warrant the price. Especially with the white tablecloth and environment, the service really tarnished the experience. We weren't special at all... just another table to turn.
Overall: We enjoyed our dinner, but it's not going to draw us back. I'd rather get good Indian take-out from Jaipur down South Blvd and take it home. Honestly, if you are going to charge me 4-star prices, you need to deliver a 4-star experience and not just 4 star food.
