  • I lived here from August 2014 to August 2015. I was unhappy living at The Retreat. I don't know where to even start... The main reason I chose to live at The Retreat was because it seemed secure. I couldn't have been more wrong. The parking gate "breaks" quite often. There were at least two times where the gate remained open for weeks at a time, leaving the premises open to vagrants and unwanted visitors. In addition to the gate not being effective, the concrete wall surrounding the backside of the complex had a large hole cut out of it for about five or six months. This hole allowed homeless people to enter the property. I would go as far as to call The Retreat crime-ridden. Cops, in both marked and unmarked vehicles, were a frequent site during my stay. It was rare to go more than a couple of days without seeing cops in the complex. I don't know the full list of crimes, but a few things I know the cops responded to were: a hostage situation, multiple burglaries, vandalism, large fights, and even drug dealers. I'm almost positive my most recent "across the hall" neighbors were kicked out for drug dealing. There are some nice people in the complex, but there are a lot of bad people as well. My apartment itself was not much better, especially for what I was paying. The appliances are old and junky, all from the 20th century. Everything in the apartment was low quality. I felt like I was living in a shantytown rather than an apartment. The maintenance people are a joke. I had probably a half-dozen repair requests that were outright ignored. I had the carpeting and wall of my closet ripped out in December 2014, rendering it useless for the remainder of my lease. I moved into The Retreat expecting a secure, comfortable, and relatively quiet living situation. My experience was not what I had hoped for. I advise everyone to find a better place to live. There are apartments in the neighborhood for significantly less money that offer legitimate security.
