  • Must read! The last digit of the price identifies how long the vehicle has been on the lot. 1 thru 4. The longer it's been on the lot, the lower the price will be. So if it has a 1 at the end it has just recently got there and they may not be inclined to move on the price. If it has a 4 at the end them they are closer to their bottom number and can maybe go down another $500. There may be exceptions. I bought a VW GTI from another dealer, it was not even out for sale yet and the moved $3,000 on the price to get within my pre-approved Cap1 loan. They will shuffle cars in their Automation network. Cars will get their last digit number of the price change until it gets to 5, meaning been there way too long and need to move to a fresh location. First some context: I was pre-approved with a Cap1 with a blank-check in hand about 3 weeks ago. I went here to look at a SUV but my loan approval was not enough to cover the total cost. So I changed my mind and decided to get two vehicles van for the family and compact to get around. I would have used half of my Cap1 loan, and another loan, while still staying within my budget. Staff: The staff was good. My salesman put in a lot of work trying to find me a vehicles. Although he was very quick finding vehicles within their network, he was not quick and persistent enough to get the cars I wanted transferred. The two vehicles that I really wanted he couldn't get it transferred. One was moved days later after I asked, and the second was purchased days after. What I was really disappointed with the salesman making me wait hours in the lounge while he helped other customers. Pricing: THIS IS NOT CARMAX! CarMax is a store, this is a dealership. Their prices are structured into different tiers, base on the length of time on the lot or in the AutoNation network, and other factors. So there is some room on the price. Financing: I was told that I was pre-approved at a certain APR. When it was time to sign the quote before seeing the finance manage the APR was 2 percent higher. I have heard horror stories about this exact situation/scam. Not saying they pulled it on me, I am not certain, but it didn't make me feel good. So, I left. When I got home I realized that they tricked me into signing another application. Real sly. Service Dept.: I saw another customer go through hell, with the service department over a warranty they promised would cover something but didn't. She had her vehicle less than a month. During the time of working with this dealership, Veterans Day passed. I served 10 years in the Army, deployed twice to Baghdad conducted mounted and dis-mounted patrols. I think I at least deserve a tiny discount. What really gets me is the two personnel that I worked with both served in the military. As a leader one of my responsibilities was to counsel and guide my subordinates about purchasing vehicles. I am sure that the two I worked with have had soldiers that got ripped offed by dealers. All I am saying is that soldiers and veterans should be the last to take advantage of. If I wanted to purchase the vehicle I would incur a fee to have it moved to their location. The first transfer was free, but I guess transfers thereafter are not. It is not my fault a deal was not made. Maybe the APR was as low as it could go, but they did not move on the sticker price either. I understand, they have to turn a profit, that the old ways that dealers made money are gone. We (consumers) have access to so much information that it is a lot harder for dealers to turn a profit, but they still do. With that said, to stay competitive with other dealers they have their prices marked up at a lower percentage than compared to 10 years ago. But there is still room for negotiation. I ended up getting a van from Saraha Dodge and Chrysler and a VW GTI from Autonation VW.
