| - Well, here we are four months after my initial review. I am very pleased to report that GE has done a very solid job maintaining that early high level of execution. Make no doubt, this is not the "old" Giant Eagle. This is a brand new, shiny and powerful edition that is not only aiming at becoming your go-to place for, oh, EVERYTHING, but is doing its very best to make that a reality.
The prepared foods continue to amaze. Yes, every once in a while something is off and doesn't quite measure up to previous versions, but that experience has been far and few in between. Still haven't tried the sushi so can't comment on that, but it does look good, for what it's worth.
One of my biggest complaints with GE in the past was that they always seemed to have far fewer registers open than actually needed to keep things moving. They do a better job in this new store. I'm not, however, crazy about the self-service lanes. You want to give customers a discount for using them, fine, but in the meantime, I like to pretend I don't actually work there.
Keep it up, Giant Eagle, keep it up. I'm betting you actually have Heinen's management pulling a Butch Cassidy and saying, "They're beginning to get on my nerves. Who ARE those guys?
