| - It has been many years since I had lunch at the Duck and Decanter on Camelback. I hardly have any memories of previous experiences there, except that my impression was that it was overpriced. Today, I was able to confirm that opinion. Although a rather cool Biltmore area kind of vibe, it was awkward and a bit uncomfortable inside. There is no flow. The dry goods were exceptionally overpriced ($5.39 for a box of Carr's crackers?!). I decided to order a little lunch and explore. There is no love lost between customers and employees here. I ordered a sandwich and the order taker assumed I was done. I then asked for a side and he offered if I would like a drink. He provided me with a large styrofoam cup. If I hadn't already explored the interior before ordering, I would have had to ask at that point where to fill my cup. But, I had seen the dispensers in the back corner. I went to see what I'd like to drink. I decided on a variety of fresh tea. It was empty. The woman behind this counter was quite snarky with me. She withdrew the empty dispenser, exposing another identical dispenser behind it. Then she got snarky. I pulled the full dispenser toward me so I could use it. Apparently, she was unable to provide the effort to move it herself. After a very few minutes my name was called and I collected my order. I was delighted to be offered a complimentary pickle spear (I love pickles) or a taffy. There was no trouble finding an empty table outside. I opened the bag and spread my meal. The sandwich I had ordered on light rye was served on french roll. The meat was meager in portion. The swiss cheese was apparently not a slice, but rather a few sprinkles of shredded white matter. This was not an eight dollar sandwich. Since the menu had suggested the french roll, I decided to just eat it. It was tasty, but not great. I don't know what was the sweet ingredient included, but it was a little weird. The southwest pasta salad side was ok, but a little too wet. Overall, the $12.49 total bill was about five dollars more than the meal was worth. I probably won't go back anytime soon. We have too many great options today, in central Phoenix.
