| - I am new to Farm Boy. My first introduction was in Waterloo earlier this month. It felt like home when I first walked in.
Farm Boy is like Trader Joe's in the States. You can get decent food for various dietary needs. In my case, I am borderline lactose-intolerant. As a result, lactose-free and vegan options are available and are pretty extensive. I am the one who ends up walking around with a huge smile on my face because it has everything that I need.
Farm Boy also reminds me of Whole Foods. The difference is that prices are cheaper at the former.
The closest Farm Boy for me is in Pickering. It's at Pickering Town Centre. I thought that it would be a zoo having a supermarket at a fairly busy mall. I visited on a Saturday and found a pretty premium parking spot (say that five times fast!) in front of the store.
The store does not have a doorway that leads you into the mall. For me, that's fine. I didn't need to shop at the mall and only came here for groceries.
I stocked up on my Vegan Bob's snacks. This place did not have vegan cheese puffs, which was a bit of a disappointment. Perhaps I need to visit the one in Waterloo again.
I find that the one in Waterloo had more variety and better prices. I got a six-pack of Portuguese egg tarts for $7.49. I didn't see a similar pack-up here. Instead, I would have needed to pay $1.49 for one. I'd be looking at $9 worth of egg tarts.
Despite these details, I love this store. I love all the hot foods and salad bar. I ended up picking up a pack of Grandmother's Bake Shoppe chocolate butter tarts. I have heard so much about them, but never knew where to buy them until now. I got some celery, which was fresh and crisp.
I also for some mushroom kale soup. It's vegan. The coconut base was fragrant. You can't tell that there's kale in it! I actually added more sliced mushrooms to the soup, because I love mushrooms.
I had no problem finding a basket. There are plenty around the store.
I went to pay for my goodies. My cashier was nice. She took my reusable penguin bag and helped place my goodies in it. I tend to expect to do all that, so it was a nice touch. The woman shopper behind me said that I was smart for having a shopping bag clipped on my purse. We both store our bags in our car trunk. It's so easy to forget to bring them in.
I hope that Markham will have a Farm Boy someday. In the meantime, I am good heading over to Pickering.
