| - I wish I could give two ratings - one for the accommodations and another for service. The accommodations were just what we wanted - a real suite with a bedroom door so our kids could go to sleep before we do. The hotel is nice. My kids had a great time watching and feeding the fish. (Go up to the front desk to get food.) The breakfast was wonderful, but be prepared to wait in a long line if you don't get there early. My kids enjoyed looking out the glass elevators, although they could use a little maintenance so they don't jerk as much.
So why only three stars? The service drove us nuts! We stayed two nights. After the first night we expected housekeeping would be around anytime and were surprised when they hadn't shown up by 2 PM. Turns out they came by around 9 PM! (The clock we brought had been unplugged for them to vacuum and was blinking when we returned.) On a typical night, our kids would have been in bed by that point and housekeeping would have been too late. While they cleaned well - except the yellow mildew spots forming on the shower ceiling because there was no bathroom fan - they failed to replace the washcloths they removed. We called down, but had to wait almost 1/2 an hour for new ones to be brought up.
The next morning at 8:30 AM, housekeeping loudly knocked on our door, awakening all of us. That was not a good way to start the day! I'm not sure why they were there. How much of a mess could we have made in 12 hours, most of it asleep? Since we were checking out that day, they could have waited until we turned in our keycards.
The other annoyance was when we decided to enjoy the nice eating area for lunch. We arrived shortly before the janitor with the floor scrubbing machine. Apparently, that annoyed him because he went back and forth by our table for 10 minutes stifling conversation, but only needed less than 5 minutes to clean the rest of the expansive dining area. Gee! We are sooooo sorry we wanted to enjoy the ambiance of the hotel instead of eating in our room!
I did bring this to the attention of the front desk and they offered to make it up with another night's stay on them. A very attractive offer and frankly more than generous for the annoyances we experienced. However, our trip to Pittsburgh was a one-time-only trip, so we declined.
Would we stay there again? Yes, but we would try to schedule housekeeping for a time convenient to us.
