  • Based on the other one review I saw of Sammy's I decided to give it a try. It thankfully was open on a Sunday as well. Upon arriving at the empty salon, the lone attendant seated me (slightly apprehensively...more on that later) and started doing her thing. She asked me what I wanted and chatted about the weather for a bit. However, two things turned me off. 1. She used a clipper! Now don't get me wrong, I used to *love* getting my 'fade' using clippers ("#2 in the back and #3 on the sides"), but I've kinda moved on to just scissor based cuts in my recent years. Maybe a sign that I'm getting older...When she busted out the clippers, I was tempted to ask her to just use scissors, but decided against it due to #2.. 2. She seemed awfully nervous, since her hands weren't as stable and assured as my typical stylist/barber is. I was thinking, does this lady know what she was doing? Perhaps she was the manicurist/pedicurist and since she was the only one in the salon when I walked in that she reluctantly had to cut my hair! I closed my eyes and hoped for the best, thinking, hey, I can always go bald for a few months right? Upon opening my eyes about 15 minutes later I let out a sigh of relief to discover my hair didn't look that bad after all! I held out to see how it would look until after I shampooed and styled it at home to pass judgment. However, after shampooing and styling, the cut turned out pretty damn good! I'd like to give it a 3.5* for the value and price on a Sunday, but think you can get better cuts at other salons for the same price.
