| - I am very disappointed at my dealings with A Kind Exchange. I had dealt with them before in the past and always felt tit was a bit of a rip off.
After dropping off a bag full of clothes and accessories for the store to go through, I read on the contract that I had 3 days after the call back or it will all be "donated". The man at the store who took my stuff to begin with said there was a back log and it would take longer than expected which I was ok with.
I left the city for the weekend and had missed a call. When I called back it was A Kind Exchange saying that my stuff was ready for pick up. When I asked if there was an offer, so I would know wether to go by with a car or not, the attendant said that he couldn't tell me.Anyways, told him I was out of town for 3 days but would be back to pick it up as soon as I got back. He told me he would pass the message on to the manager and hold it for me.
I went to the store today as soon as I got back from the trip, and the employee couldn't find my form so went to the back room.
She came back saying they "donated it all".
When I explained that I had told them to hold it and asked if there was an offer she said there was no offer and that the 3 days had passed. ( it was day 4).
I clearly did not give permission for my stuff to be given away. I had a lot of good quality clothing from brands like Club Monaco, leather purses etc.
Then she went on to say that "if I wanted to look through the racks and shelves to see if "I find any of my stuff, I can take it back."
I was totally confused. I asked why the heck would my stuff be on the shelves if I had not been given an offer and everything went to be " donated"?!! She then showed me a little paper that showed that 10% went to charity. She was un helpful to say the least.
I was pretty confused and upset at this point. I was with my toddler and did not have the time or patience to " look through the store to find my items" that I never gave permission to be sold, or never got an offer in the first place. I feel cheated and like the store is not being clear and honest about the donations people leave.
It basically goes like this:
You bring in your stuff, they go through it and then tell you there was no offer.
They then ask if you want to donate the rest to their charity which actually is only "the stained and un sellable clothes" and the rest they put in their shop and only a meagre 10% only goes to charity.
That to me is completely dishonest and sketchy if I'm being honest.
If the business is making a profit with our "donated" items then why are we not? Makes no sense whatsoever!
IF I had the impression that it ALL went to an actual charity, I would be ok with that, but not like this for sure.
On with my story.. So after I waited for the other employee to return from his break for about a good 30 min, (mind you with my toddler), I asked for my stuff so I could do as I pleased with it, or donate it to my own charity, and he goes to the back and comes back with my bag, empty, and with literally 2 items in the bag. I had left an oversized bag stuffed with items, so when I mentioned that he offered me to go to the back room to sort through and see if I found my items.
This was shocking to me, and extremely unprofessional, but so was everything since I set foot in the store, so not too surprised at this point.
I walked in to a filthy mess of a room with a literal mountain of clothing, shoes, bags amongst which were my things.
I was pissed off, to say the least. It wasn't the poor guys fault, he was kind and helpful and was just doing his job, but the lack of organization and respect to the people who apparently "donated" their belongings was appalling.
I sorted through the clothing with the help of the employee, and managed to find a few of the items, but not all. I couldn't find items of clothing ,purses etc, and I couldn' t tell you where they went.
By that point I was fed up so gathered what I had found of mine and left feeling very angry and annoyed at the whole situation.
So, my advice to you is to avoid this store at all costs.
You can find better stuff at regular thrift stores. The stuff they have there is not up to date or good quality.
It's a complete rip off, and they are not being clear to the public about how they profit and generate $$$ from you.
If worse comes to worse, there's always H&M down the street where you can donate a bag of clothes and they'll give you a coupon on $5 off your next purchase.
Better than anything A Kind Exchange will do for you.
A very pissed off X customer.
