On my last night in Cleveland, I was brought to La Cave Du Vin for a few drinks, despite being tired and fighting a cold. I was not entirely up for a night out but I was pleasantly surprised as we descended the stairs into the dark.
The place was pretty crowded but we were able to snag a table for 3 shortly after arriving. I started out with a glass of wine as I admired a cheese board on a table near us, cursing myself for being too full to order my own. I flipped through the beer specialties (I wasn't actually aware I could spend $20+ on a single beer, but turns out you most certainly can), and decided to visit the cooler to select my own beer for the next round.
I could have easily stood there all night selecting a beer to drink, but sometimes you just have to take the plunge. I originally had grabbed a pale ale, but made a game time decision to switch to the very last pumpkin ale in the case. While at first I was taken with the ingenuity of the whole concept of the select your own beer, I was even more shocked at some of the dirt cheap prices for quality beers. I guess you really can have it all!
I don't believe that this type of bar would succeed in Boston, but I would always be thrilled to make a trip back to La Cave Du Vin.
