Normally, I'm a fan of Westin hotels. But this one felt a bit like the sign outside should've read "Cashgrab Harbour Castle" instead of Westin. Parking was $30 a day, $40 for valet. Internet access. $16 a day. A sandwich through room service was $20. And I shudder to think what the $20 bottle of champagne cost you. These are things that happen at quasi-luxury hotels in major urban centers that are in the middle of everything. But this Westin felt a bit far off of downtown Toronto, with everything being a bare minimum of a kilometer walk from the hotel. Plus, the bed and pillows veered toward the fluffy side, which is a good thing if you like a fluffy bed and a not so good thing if you're like me and prefer a firmer, Fester Addams-esq plank to sleep on. If they offered at least an option for a firmer pillow, I might have slept better.
Granted the view from the 34th floor overlooking the islands and Lake Ontario was phenomenal. But there are other good hotels in Toronto closer to all the action and that offer more amenities. I probably will stay in one of those on my next trip to Toronto.
