| - I haven't had a lot of luck with sushi in Ontario... but I have to admit, my standards are exceedingly high; sushi is my favorite food, and I've eaten high quality sushi since I was a teenager (which was a mighty long time ago).
His Goatness and I, taking a weekend to explore a little bit of Toronto, found this place on Yelp, and decided to check it out.
Neighborhood: totally worth the egregious traffic. We really enjoyed sight-seeing along the waterfront, and the neighborhood reminds me a bit of some of my favorite parts of San Francisco -- part of a large city, yes, but still neighborly and friendly and quirky enough to actually have some personality.
Decor: beautiful, cozy, with traditional elements (like all the lovely smooth wood) and semi-private nooks for tables that made the small space very pleasant.
Service: friendly, yes, but hey -- it's Canada, right? That much is a given. While we were surprised and pleased by the complimentary soup, we waited for over 10 minutes for utensils with which to eat it, so it was cold. (As I recall, we actually gave up and swiped utensils off an unused table.) We requested water several times, but never saw any. We were charged for a roll we didn't order (thank god they didn't deliver it; I was stuffed to the gills with their giant portions by the time we left) -- they fixed it, but still.
Food: honest to gods, you need to *warn* people about the size of the portions! I ordered WAY too much fish, and it was painful to finish it (sushi doesn't keep, and I must have starved to death in a past life, as I hate wasting food). Fish was high quality, but be careful ordering: many things on the menu are not sustainable, and/or downright endangered (consult your Seafood Watch guide).
That having been said, this was the best sushi experience I've had yet in Ontario. Fresh seafood is just easier to get on the coast...
