| - This has become a favorite with my in-laws when they come through town. My mother-in-law has a sulfate allergy (basically wine or anything fermented), and Spoon goes above and beyond in terms of helping to navigate the menu. Without even asking, our server comes prepared with tweaks from the chef should she be interested in any dishes that might otherwise be off-limits.
As others have mentioned, the bread basket is killer. They usually have some sort of flavored butter, and a variety of breads. I think I'd be happy to eat an entire basket of the cream cheese and chive biscuits for my dinner! The last time we went we tried their cheese plate. It had a great variety of cheeses, as well as great pairings like fresh fruit preserves (made in-house if I remember correctly.) I was a little disappointed by their basic salad. It comes with a champagne vinaigrette, which tasted weirdly salty to me- not sharp or acidic, just salty.
Both times I've gone, I've gotten a fish entree. The first time I got a salmon dish that wasn't too memorable. Based on that first entree- perfectly good, but not incredible- I wasn't too quick to come back to Spoon, left to my own devices. But I'm glad I did come back, because I got some sort of monkfish (or was it sea bass?) in a coconut curry with black beans, farro and even a few pieces of shrimp. It was incredible- the silky broth, with the slight chew from the farro and the buttery fish. Mmm! I even saved a bit for a nice lunch the next day.
I've usually been too full to get a really over-the-top dessert, but I've really enjoyed their homemade soberts.
