  • When the Von's up the street on Lake Mead closed, a lot of people went in search of a replacement store. This Smith's is not far from that store, about 5 minutes or so down the street a ways on Rampart, so it may be a good fit for that clientele. However, this store is WAY different from the Von's. For one thing, it's HUGE. So big that it can be exhausting to get a normal shopping trip accomplished. Also, as others have pointed out, the parking lot is also very big with crazy drivers! Most of the customers here are older/elderly residents from nearby Summerlin, and being older folks, most of the disabled parking spaces are taken fast! There's quite a lot of driving around looking for a good parking space up close. I wouldn't want to be around this store during a busy holiday time! Yikes! Some of the aisles in the store also seem narrow or narrower than the Vons, so that may take a bit of getting used to. This is a busy place and there's some bumping of carts every now and then in an aisle that sometimes can't handle the traffic. All you can do is be courteous and try to get out of the way lol... If you can deal with those negatives (and they ARE negatives), the store itself may be a good choice for you. It's in a safe, clean part of town (upscale), and the prices are fairly good. The store seems to be very well kept and taken care of, so if you've been to Smith's in other areas that don't keep things up, you will like this store. Yes, they are higher on some items than Vons, but if you stick to the Kroger store brand, the deals are fairly comparable. Use your store card to make sure you get all the sales. They carry a lot of kosher products and the deli looks awesome with tons of meat, cheeses, bakery, etc. -- things you won't see at any other Smith's store. Their breads and rolls look especially yummy and fresh baked, very reasonable prices like $1.50 where it would be over $2.00 or more at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. It might take several visits here to really get a feel for this store and find your way around, or maybe figure out the days that it's less busy? If you can get past the initial problems of the parking lot and lots of people constantly flowing in and out of this place, maybe you will learn to like it? or maybe even love it? It's worth a looksee if you're searching for a store in a good part of town with a varied choice of items.
