*BEWARE* We have a 3 year old Carrier unit that stopped cooling on a very hot Saturday afternoon. Out of desperation, we called Chas Roberts on Sunday morning. The technician arrived on time and called prior to arrival. He diagnosed our issue site unseen based on symptoms and said it'd run us about $125 for the blown capacitor. Great! Easy enough. But not so fast. Next thing I know he's recommending we replace the capacitors on both our units and install a "starter kit". I was almost persuaded... Fast forward 15 minutes and he calls me outside to tell me our compressor in our 3 year old unit is dead. It'd be $1500 in labor to fix.
Something started to smell fishy so we allowed him to install the capacitor on the dead unit to avoid the trip charge and sent him on his way.
We then called a local air company on Monday. The owner had us plug the unit back in (CR tech had left it disconnected). The unit fired right up and has been running beautifully ever since. We had both units looked at this morning and confirmed the compressor is in perfect condition. Had we not used half a brain, we'd be out $1500 for a new compressor we didn't need.
I'll never use Chas Roberts again and you should be warned. FYI, I've since learned CR techs are paid on commission.
*Update following reply from CR: I stand by my review. I do not wish to speak with you further. My experience and that of countless other low star reviews speaks volumes. Buyer beware.
