It would be far more pleasant to shop at this bookstore if the staff members did not treat you like a gadfly interfering with their socializing amongst each other. When you ask a question they act like you are an annoyance. I don't think Book City (Bloor Street location) wants to sell books, rather they want to provide book display. It is shame, because the inventory of books is quite impressive, the prices are exceptional (many discounts on new titles) and the store is lovely for browsing. I would love to see an independent bookstore do well, but I hate shopping someplace where the staff members gleefully doll out indifference and sometimes even hostility to shoppers--an experience I have had many times. Too bad, because otherwise I would shop here more often. I wish the owners/managers would take more notice of the toxic environment of their store, because otherwise this bookstore would be a Toronto gem.
