| - When I'm in Nevada, I like to do a mixture of the typical thing and then I like to visit less common places. Springs Preserve may not be on the average, Nevada visitor's to-do list. But I kid you not, it was on mine.
Why? What's so attractive about this place? Well, for starters, it has a neat rocky entrance with mini streams of water running along the bottom of a few structures. The desert botanical garden is well kept with plants, fixtures, flowers and trees. They have some art displays in a few of the buildings. There are interactive environment rooms in a lower building that houses games and interesting facts about energy, waste, water and machines. I'm sure kids and even adults had a blast there, like us.
Some outdoor areas look abandoned with unfinished exhibits, and some of the architecture looks incomplete. But that does not make this place underwhelming. In fact, it just added to my adoration for it even more. The effort the developers put in to keep Springs Preserve different from the hype of Las Vegas is truly appreciated by me. I felt at one with nature walking through the trails in the garden, I felt like I was away from ceaseless casinos & weary wanderers, I felt good spending almost 2 hours combing the offerings of this indoor/outdoor preserve. Even though the garden was drenched in Halloween decorations, it was still fun roaming the grounds. Hardly anyone there on the Sunday we went.
Didn't get the opp to cruise the butterfly exhibit or the café, but shopped briefly in their small gift shop. If you ever want to veer from the norm while in Vegas, get yourself a ticket (or tickets) to Springs Preserve, enjoy some fresh air, art and garden scenery. We did.
