  • So I did sign up for the year-long membership. I remembered to bring my credit card after my fourth class, so signed up then. I guess that means I lost my last punch (fifth class) but I do like being able to go to any class I like and not worrying about signing up or calling to cancel which was something I think I was supposed to be doing during the trial period. They also let me extend for an extra month because of my travel schedule. I had asked to start the membership late and they instead proposed this solution; it was definitely nice that they were accommodating. The actual price seems to be $125 a month which is between $10 and $15 per class if I go 2-3 times per week. Not sure if that's a special or the permanent price, but the registration cost was under $50 which I think was lower than the norm. Maybe they'll have something at New Year's for all the resolution-ers??? The volume of the sound system does still vary. I regularly take earplugs to the location and only use them sometimes. I'm not quite sure why some days they make it so loud and other days just normal. But the music is upbeat and the jokes keep coming, so the content is fine. Perky, but fine. (She really does give good technique tips, I'm just old and crotchety.) There are still new people in every class I attend, so they're clearly still in ramp up mode. No idea how many people will be in a typical class once they settle down, but I haven't seen a class with all the bags full since my first week. The ladies' locker room gets a bit crowded after class, though. No one showers, but it's tight to get to my stuff with all the gals (who come with friends) gabbing. The real question is does it work? Am I getting better, faster, thinner, fitter? Yeah, I do seem to be. Nothing like those transformational photos--plus, you know, Thanksgiving was just last week--but my cardio has improved already and so has my strength. Not so much my speed or jump-ability (the interval warm up is KILLER!)... Of course, any exercise is more than I was getting, so I'm sure that plays into it. But I've signed up and I seem to be sticking with it (the location is SOOOOOOO convenient) and I'm pretty sure that's what actually makes it work. If you can do that without being yelled at, more power to you. I couldn't so I guess this is my solution.
