| - There are two major holidays that cause short term retail invasions across the lands of Las Vegas. Those annoying and lame fireworks stands that pop up around town near the 4th or New Years set up in various parking lots are a far and away second place to the true be all end all of pop up retail: Spirit of Halloween.
Those fireworks stands are for people too lazy to drive to Pahrump or the Indian Reservations to get real fireworks, but the Spirit of Halloween chain of stores are the real deal and truly cater to everyone from casual families looking for cheap and easy throw-together costumes for their little ones or elaborate All Hallows' Eve soirees planners that follow in the footsteps of John Hammond and truly spare no expense in converting themselves and their homes into true Spook Centrals, minus the hot Sigourney Weavers.
The Spirit of Halloween stores take temporary, pop up retail to an entirely different level. They merchandise, they heavily staff, they assist with personal shopping, they provide full service dressing rooms, stunning visual displays, interactive terminals for viewing elaborate home conversions, efficiently trained staff with modern point of sale equipment that enables them to accept all major credit cards, including American Express. Their stores are often expansive, taking up several adjoining storefronts in shopping centers or even taking over full blown for her furniture stores with their individual departments set up in separate rooms, acting as showcases or galleries.
This particular Spirit of Halloween store in Centennial Center adjacent to Fresh & Easy takes up two large storefronts and offers a huge variety of costumes, masks, wigs, cosmetics, home decor, accessories, props, music, candy, and even pop up Zombies in a box.
The store is divided into individual shops depending on what you are seeking. Small children's costumes are in one cute section and modern licensed products from pop culture trends like The Walking Dead, Jurassic World, or Minecraft have their own sections. There is a separate home decor department that offers everything from shower curtains to candelabras that would put a smile on Liberace's face.
Finally, of course there is a large adult costume section so every girl and woman in that visit can contemplate what kind of slut they want to be this year. And don't worry if your chest doesn't match the models that are in the pictures of the costumes. Spirit also offers heavily padded bras and falsies so you too can be a slutty Mrs. Claus or SlutCop with the boobs to match. It truly is a full service retail paradise of the macabre.
There is another pop up temp Halloween store that is in town as well during this season. It is called Halloween City, but really don't even waste your time. Comparing Spirit to Halloween City is like comparing Saks Fifth Avenue to Ross Dress for Less. It simply isn't a fair comparison.
We go to Spirit of Halloween several times each year and spend small fortunes gussying up our family and home in oodles of Halloween themed crap. Most of which is purchased right from our local Spirit of Halloween store.
I strongly recommend Spirit of Halloween to anyone looking for getting into the mood for Fright Night. It is the one day of the year that the antics in Fremont Street actually make sense and no one does Halloween quite like Las Vegas.
