| - Like every local, I was ecstatic to hear that Monta Ramen would be opening another location in the Southwest which is rapidly growing with great restaurants. When Omoide opened, they lived up to the hype. After all, it was one of the first ramen spots to open in Southwest. And so when word came on the street that Monta (who made it on Travel Channel) decided to expand its location, it was over. My life was complete.
And how disappointed I was.
Came here twice, about 3 weeks apart which was enough to say that I would not be coming back. Actually, should not have even come the second time.
On a non-busy weekday, I stood by the seating area for 10 minutes. Tables and bar area non filled. Host/Server did not actually even acknowledge me and had her head working on some check by the computer. It was not until 2 guys walked in that she looked up and saw us and thought we were together as one party.
I ordered the Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen. This time, I thought, I would be smart and just order extra Chashu since the first time there was only one fatty piece. Kobo is smart. Since they want you to pay for additional toppings, my logic was that if I paid for extra chashu- perhaps there would be more chance of better chashu. I paid $2.50 for 4 pieces of fat, essentially.
How is it that the SAME ramen restaurant can have two completely different chashus? Did not particularly favor the tiny portion of ground beef inside either. Given, the noodles are made freshly in-house. Other than that, the ramen is terrible.
I will make that drive to Jinya or Monta Ramen on the other side of town.
But Ramen Kobo, I will pass.
