| - When I watched episodes of "Chuck's Day Off", I always thought it would've so cool to eat at his restaurant. When I realized I was coming to Montreal, I thought wouldn't it be cool to eat at that restaurant--but didn't remember the name or Chuck's last name. Also, I thought--"there's no way it's close to where we're staying..."
Then we took a walking tour of the "Tastes of Old Montreal". During the tour, our guide points out the completely unnoticeable Le Garde Manger, and says it is one of the best restaurants in the city, owned by Chef Chuck Hughes. Yay!!! We managed to get a reservation, and were rewarded with great ambiance, fun interaction with a cool, informed and engaging staff, and we got some really great food.
Our meal started with a delightful goat cheese board paired with crisp, light flatbread. Then I got the striped sea bass and my husband got the grilled scallops. Both entrees were just as delicious as expected. For dessert we shared the ice cream sandwiches with caramel dipping sauce, and I'm only a little embarrassed to say I cleaned our plate.
The meal was tasty, fun and memorable. Perfect for a vacation visit!!
