  • If I could give this company no stars I seriously would. I have viewed properties with this company in the past, about two years ago, and felt okay about it. Today I set up an account to view their properties and set out across town to view one. I arrived onsite and the lockbox was not where it was suppose to be and the door handle was crooked. After searching the property looking like a creeper to the onlooking neighbors I found the lockbox and opened it only to find that there was no key. The company keeps your credit card on file so I called them immediately to inform them that there was no key and to see if a property manager could come show me the property. I was informed to go home and I would get a call in a few days with an explanation as to why there was no key. Being dissatisfied with his response I hung up and called back and was transferred to customer service which is an option I was not offered in the first place. Upon reaching customer service I was told that it's not their fault the last person didn't return the key. Even though they are responsible for these properties apparently there is no follow up on whether or not keys are returned or who has them. The customer service I was given was far from great and I have had amazing experiences with other companies who have real property managers that assist you in viewing properties. If viewing a property with this company has been this difficult I can only imagine what the lease process is like! I have a friend who rents one of their properties and claims it's a nightmare so perhaps I'm lucky I did not get to view this property. This will be the last time I deal with American Homes 4 Rent. Good luck to anyone else who tries.
