  • Pros: Tasty, not too sweet, flavourful doughnuts with good base doughnuts, which are priced reasonably. Cons: Packaging for any doughnuts less than six in number is awful; some doughnuts have insufficient filling/topping; schedule online isn't reliable. Have tried Von Doughnuts twice this year. Thus far I've had the Violet Beauregarde, Caramel Salt 'N Pepa, Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Sappy Pig, Crème Brûlée. I usually favour yeast-raised doughnuts to cake ones, but my favourite so far has been the Violet Beauregarde. It had great texture (slightly crunchy crust) and flavourful icing and dough. The Caramel Salt 'N Pepa and Peanut Butter Jelly Time were good, but not mind-blowing. The PBJT had a pretty good peanut butter frosting. The Sappy Pig and Crème Brûlée were disappointing in that I was expecting them to be good, but they were just meh. The stingy amount of filling in the Crème Brûlée made for a doughnut without textural contrast and the Sappy Pig was just one-dimensional in flavour, which is particularly sad for a bacon-maple doughnut. The yeast base itself for the last four doughnuts is fairly good (much better than Jelly Modern), but not great in the way the blueberry cake base blew me away. Sometimes, they also taste a little bit off, like the oil they fried it in had degraded too much (Caramel Salt 'N Pepa). The one star knocked off is mostly for the packaging. The frosting isn't set on the doughnuts, so inevitably, despite their toothpick trick (stick toothpicks into the doughnuts to "tent" the bag), it's going to stick to the inside of the bag unless you treat your doughnut like a Faberge egg, which is difficult with more than one. As a result you end up with a less flavourful and kinda ugly doughnut. They really need figure out a solution for takeaway doughnuts less than six in number. Overall, I'd go again, especially to try the more interesting flavours. However, I've found that their schedule online isn't reliable and they have fewer flavours than is posted online.
