  • NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. Grew up in Phoenix and live 15 min from the stadium. Just got done with our first game and it'll also be our last. From the moment we walked into the stadium we felt like we under scrutiny for everything; a family day that was supposed to be fun turned into an annoying waste of money. I have a big family with lots of little kids so we decided to take the kids for a game during their spring break. Before we went into the stadium I asked the ticket counter what we could bring into the stadium. They said no packaged bottled drinks (like Coke or sealed water bottles) or food from restaurants--that's fair, but they said umbrellas should be fine. When we walked into the entrance the "bag checker" made us pour out all of the stainless steel water bottles we had for the kids. OK, whatever, but that's where it started to get annoying. I walked through with my Sportbrella on my shoulder and still nobody said a word. We set up at the only place people with little kids normally go--the grass seats. The Sportbrella went up in a back corner as to not block anyone's view (we are a very respectful family). After about an hour somebody came over and told us to take it down, because that was the rules. That's where it really got annoying especially after we set up in an area that did not block anyone's view. When you have a 10-month-old baby with fair skin it kind of stinks not to have shade, and the other kids have no place to go for shade when they get hot, so it is very annoying. It was like it always is during spring training games--sunny and hot. On top of that I spent an exorbitant amount of money on concessions. These people are making money hand-over-fist and treat fans like criminals. We could hear the radios of the security people and it sounded like they we getting off on busting people. Hey Tempe Diablo--build a shade structure in the grass seats and charge five dollars extra, and stop being so Gestapo. If you want family friendly, or just friendly, go somewhere else.
