| - After reading the good reviews, my wife and I decided to give this place a try. We got there at 3:35p and decided to get the lunch ayce.
First off, the waitress (Kate), seemed rude and bothered just by taking our order. Which were only 3 rolls and 2 appetizers. It took awhile to get our order, but we did not mind. Meanwhile, another couple behind us had gotten up and left because their orders took so long to come out. We didn't think much about it at the time, but we should have taken it into consideration.
The inside of the rolls were fine, but the amount of rice on them were ridiculous. They packed on so much rice it seemed each roll had the equivalent of a small bowl of rice on it. We were starving so we finished everything then we had to flag down the waitress to place another order because it seemed she did not want us to order anymore. Since our first order took so long we decided to get 3 more rolls. One of the rolls was the spider roll which only came with 5 pieces (boy, were we wrong). When the orders came out we were taken aback by the size of the spider roll. The diameter of the roll, no kidding, was 3-4inches!! It had so much rice on it. The other 2 rolls had quite a bit of rice also. So much so that the group next to us kept looking at our plates and commenting on how much rice were on the rolls. We've eaten quite a few ayce and we have never seen a spider roll that large before or the amount of rice on a regular sushi roll. We tried to eat all of it, but there was too much rice and we had to leave several pieces, plus it was already a little past 5 o'clock.
Next, we asked for the bill. We did not even order dessert because we were so full from trying to finish everything. When the waitress came she said that we had to eat the remaining pieces of sushi or we would get charged extra. Seriously?!! Was she out of her mind? We had already tried to burst our stomachs trying to finish the rolls that were on rice steroids. We told her there was no possible way we could finish the several remaining pieces. She had the nerve to say, "why don't you just eat these 3 pieces". Again seriously?! That was pretty much what we had left. We had no choice but to ask to speak to the manager. She told us we would have to wait 10mins. We did not want to make a scene so we waited. After 10mins , I was starting to get really upset so a male waiter (don't think he was the manager) came and asked if he could help us. We asked for the bill and he said that we had to finish. We explained to him that we understood their rice policy, but if they had put a normal amount of rice on the rolls it would not have been a problem. I'm sure when he saw the remaining pieces he was also surprised by the amount of rice, because he said we can call it even and that next time please be aware of the policy. He had the waitress get our check and to top it off, the waitress charged us for the dinner price which is $5/person more than lunch. She knew we ate the lunch because she gave us a slip with the lunch time on it when we first came in. So, again, we had to flag her down to get the bill corrected. When we finally left it was close to 5:30p.
I hope the several pieces of sushi with too much rice was worth it to Goyemon, because there is no way that I will ever try this place again. This place is definitely not worth it.
