| - If you are visiting Montréal, and are staying in Île Ouest / West Island, Centre Ville / Downtown Montréal or the Vieux Port / Old Montréal, this is the most inexpensive and convenient way to get there from P-E Trudeau (sometimes referred to under the old name Dorval) Montréal International Airport (YUL).
The bus leaves the airport roughly ever 20 Minutes. I live in Centre Ville near Rue St Laurent and Blvd René-Lévesque E, so it is practically on my doorstep.
The cost is 10.00$ CND for a 24 hour pass. There are additional passes you can purchase, but I recommend this one, to help you get to your lodging (STM does not offer a rolling 3 day pass, they are only day specific - just trust me for 10.00$, you can worry later about other passes).
It is important to purchase your pass from the automatic ticket machine. During business hours there is a booth that has a STM employee who can answer your questions and map out your transit trip. This person will show you the automatic ticket machine. My experience, ticket machine only accepts Visa and Master Card branded credit and debit cards. There is the Internac card system, but this card is only available if issued to you by a Canadian bank or credit union. If you have a Discover or American Express card, the machine will not accept, them. There are ATMs from the major Canadian Banks (look for signs GAB - guichet automatique bancaire, which is ATM inUS English) or you can go to the Bureau de Change. In my opinion BDC cost the most and gives the worse exchange rate. Check with your US bank before you leave. There are a number of Canadian banks that have surcharge free agreements with certain US banks.
Accordingly, the only thing the autobus 747 accepts are tickets and monnaie (in US English it roughly translates into coins). In Canada, 1$ and 2$ are coins. The bus will accept 10$ made up of 1$ and/ 2$ CND coins only (no US or Euro coins).
There is wifi on the bus, which is awesome! Unfortunately, in my experience, there are very few coaches that service the 747 line with air conditioning. So your trip may be a warm one.
Without doubt, for your introduction to Montréal in a way that will not cost you 40$ or more, autobus 747 is your best bet, hands down!!
