  • We are enthusiastic Ramsay fans and finally got a chance to try the Pub & Grill. The first thing that struck me was how comically low the chairs are compared to the tables. My husband is 6-feet tall, and the table top lined up with his chest. I'm 5'1" so you can imagine that I simply had to slide the food in a straight line directly from the plate to my mouth. We started with the Ramsay Tonic & a Moscow Mule. Both were just okay. My Moscow Mule tasted mostly of lime, and my husband didn't even finish his drink. The calamari was also just okay. It wasn't crispy, almost chewy, although it was seasoned well. And they served it with tartar sauce and ketchup. Ketchup...? Husband ordered the Fish & Chips, and I got the Braised Short Rib. The chips (or wedge fries) that came with his were seriously under-seasoned and slightly under-cooked. My Short Rib was the highlight--it nearly melted apart before my fork even touched it. The potato purée was tasty & smooth. Small sad face: the three carrots were still raw. Then came the Sticky Toffee Pudding. We've been obsessed with it ever since our first visit to Gordon Ramsay Steak. This one tasted great, but it didn't have the same sticky consistency I love about the one you can get at Steak. This was more like a cake. The least desirable part of the whole experience was the service. The hostess was cold and didn't even look at me. However, the hostess assistant that sat us was friendly and engaging. Our server was fine but insincere. When he came to take our entree order, he just approached the table and stood there looking at us expectantly. I had to say, "I think we're ready to order," just to break the awkward silence. Again, he was fine; I wouldn't classify it as rude. Just not attentive or warm. Overall, we had a decent experience. Looking back, I would rather have spent our 7-year anniversary and hard earned money at Steak again because the pricing is nearly the same, and the experience at Steak is significantly better.
