Was super excited to try Arctic Bites as it's the first place in Downtown Toronto that I've heard that serves ice cream scrolls/Thai ice cream.
Waited an insane 1.5 hours and was luckily the second last party for the night. They stop the line ~30 minutes before closing and give the last party a 'last customer' sign and provide 1 free cup of ice cream for your efforts of turning people away. Service here is super friendly and even provided an umbrella for the last party to use while they waited in the rain.
My friend had the 'You've Met your Matcha' (matcha flavour) and I had the 'Thai Me Up' (Thai iced tea flavour). All the flavours are $6.50 + tax. We both agreed that we preferred the Thai iced tea. Both the matcha and the Thai iced tea didn't have overly strong flavours but would have been much better if it was left on the cold slab for another minute prior to being rolled up. My friend absolutely loved the ice cream and was raving about it all night.
The 'Love at First Bite' (strawberries and cream), 'Taro with a Twist' (taro coconut), and 'We're Mint to Be' (peppermint oreo) are the most popular flavours and tend to sell out close to closing. 'Two Can Sam' is the least popular flavour according to the cashier, but it's her favourite.
The toppings definitely add to the presentation of the ice cream, but it would be great if you could personalize it. All of the flavours and toppings are pre-determined which I suspect is to keep the line moving and to keep the cost of operation consistent, but having tried rolled ice cream in NYC (I-CE NYC) where you are allowed to pick from a pre-made menu or DIY your own ice cream/pick your own toppings definitely calls for the comparison (quality-wise, it's better at Arctic Bites).
Would recommend this to friends, but would advise them to wait until the hype is dulled down bit or to go at off-hours to avoid the line. Even though I like this place, I wouldn't wait any longer than 15 minutes for it again.
