I had never been to Six Penn before I came for a Yelp Elite event. From the very beginning, the staff set the mood of the evening. We were greeted with champagne as we took our seats. There were wine glasses that corresponded with every one of the 7-courses. The manager came out for every course and explained the dish and the wine pairing, as well as why the dish was chosen.
The first course was chicken consomme. The broth was light, as it should be. The vegetables were not too soft or too firm. The second-course was tartare. I was nervous about eating tartare but it was delicious. The plate was presented beautifully. The third-course was foie gras, chicken I believe. It was my first time having it and another item I was nervous about, but it was delicious. It tasted like meat, but just soft. It had a nice char to it that gave it another layer of flavor. The fourth course was a braised shoulder and chop of lamb. It was paired with a fantastic lentil dish. For dessert, we had a unique dessert that had pistachios, a berry sauce, and a globe made up of something that was delicious but I don't actually remember what it was made of.
The decor is somewhat upscale, so I wouldn't come here in jeans and a T-shirt. I would come back again for sure.
