| - This place is cute, but downtown Gilbert is like that for the most part. Very down to earth, friendly, and homey!
We were on this side of town, and decided that instead of braving traffic; we would just go ahead and have supper here and proceed on home at later time.
We chose Joe's Real BBQ because we heard so many good things about it. After all, both my partners live in Gilbert. And they should know, right?
When we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who introduced herself and got us acclimated to the their offerings. We were both famished, and everything seemed so appetizing.
I chose the BBQ combo (pulled pork and chicken), and my Beloved had the sliced Beef Brisket. We walked up to the counter, and that's when our experience started diminishing. It must've been a off-day in Gilbert because the cashier that took our order was none too pleasant.
We ignored her as we walked to our table, after placing our order. We sat at one of the side booths that had a few tables. Alongside side us sat a couple that just didn't seem all that happy. As they were about to partake of their food, one of the young bussers came up to them, and cheerfully asked how their food was.
Wrong question!
The man turned to him, and said, "If you were paying attention, you'd notice that I haven't taken a bite of the food yet. So, why don't you go to that couple over there (pointing to us) and bother them with your stupid questions!"
Well, so much our initial impressions. Now that busser was in a mood, he wasn't all that friendly and accommodating when we came over to OUR table.
This was spiraling downward faster than a falling rocket.
The piece de resistance of downward spirals was when we received the food, and mine was completely dry and tasteless, and my Beloved's Beef Brisket had some type of large congealed meat that was mixed in that was absolutely atrocious. It completed detracted from what could have been a good piece of Beef Brisket. Who knows? And we will never find out!
Needless to say, we were done at that point. The only reason that I didn't rate them a 1 was due to the fact that I have heard and read such great things about this place. Furthermore, we have never struck out this badly eating in Gilbert.
We will endeavor to eat here another time, when the stars and planets don't align to cause this unfriendly maelstrom wherein people forget to take their daily "chill pills!"
