| - I was thrilled to discover Marvellous Edibles, a short walk from my house. It's a cozy brunch spot with as much character as any downtown eatery, located in the heart of Leaside! We arrived on a cold Saturday morning and were presented with three menus -- 1) brunch 2) specials (sandwiches) and 3) lunch -- with so much choice it was hard to make a decision.
Coffee came quickly, in oversized bowl-like mugs (yum!) and we each made our decision. I opted for one of the sandwiches -- classic BLT with double-smoked bacon (a treat) & cheese (which I asked to be added). It came on thickly sliced challah bread and was delicious (except for the layer of dijon mustard, i'm not a huge fan). With a side of homemade sweet potato fries and a garlic dipping sauce my meal was complete!
(and I was full for hours after...)
Two of my dining-mates opted for the French Toast - which looked and smelled amazing. With thickly sliced egg-bread and fresh maple syrup it was certainly a smart choice. Another ordered a veggie omelet and was also totally satisfied.
Here, brunch is served a la carte - so you can order potatoes, fries, eggs, bacon or other sides for $3 to $5. While the portions were generous, the prices were slightly higher than other places, but seemed to be well worth it.
The deserts ... though i was too full... looked incredible. Huge, homemade cakes and pastries, which I will return for another time.
Marvellous also does catering and its evident they have food down pat. The small restaurant was full when we arrived and seemed to stay consistently busy.
Looking forward to trying something else next time... this is certainly a great find!
