Warning: if you don't own a voltage meter and are not an electrician or an HVAC tech, don't buy an ecobee.
Bought two units for our home.
One was defective and kept shutting down our HVAC. The problem? Broken contacts in the unit. We notified Ecobee of this but they would not take our word that contacts were broken. Instead we needed a voltage meter and the ability to test the voltage of our system and the voltage level at the units themselves. Also the tech had to prove that the units were correctly installed.
We paid our HVAC company to come out ($99). Our HVAC company told them the unit is defective. Now we need photo, which fortunately our tech recommended that I take. He also had me take photos of his voltage meter so I could prove that we had proper voltage.
Also we need to prove to them that an actual tech came to our house by providing an invoice. Never mind that they tried to convince us to just test the electricals ourselves.
We actually had to pay someone to prove the unit was defective, although we told Ecobee that it was. Although Ecobee is allowing us to return the unit, they are not willing to reimburse us a needless expense that we had to undertake to satisfy them that the unit was defective, like we told them.
I spoke with Sayeed and with Steve. For $99 Ecobee is not willing to make us completely whole. Sayeed is under the impression that it's better to have customers writing bad reviews and that his apology is worth $99. Steve thinks that a $89 pack of sensors that we don't need is worth $99.
And if you call their corporate number, it just boots you into their nightmare automated system. You actually can't contact a human being in corporate. If I do find a number in corporate filings, I'll publish it.
