I used to be a Cinemark-at-Valley-View girl for all the Big Pictures. Even though the AMC was within walking distance of my home, I would drive all the way to Valley View to see blockbuster movies.
Not anymore. Now, if something isn't showing at the AMC, I'm disappointed at having to go to Valley View. Because there is nothing better than watching Captain America while stretched out in a lounge chair and drinking a long island iced tea.
The AMC underwent a complete renovation in the last year, and all the theaters are now equipped with red leather, upholstered chairs. That recline. With a foot rest. All at the push of a button. Now I can watch a movie in the comfort of being in my own home.
Furthermore, there is a bar. A full bar. Where they will mix you a drink. At a cost that is actually not that far out of line with the prices in regular bars these days. Yes, $9 may be a lot of my long island. But when you figure that I am forgoing the giant soda and the popcorn, my movie snack cost hasn't really gone up!
And when I settle in to my assigned seat (yes, they are numbered and assigned) and kick back into my lounge position, I'm perfectly happy. Movies just got more awesome.
