  • This is my neighborhood Smith's and it's awfully close to a 5-star store-- I give it a 4.5. I have been going here for 3 years and they sure have made some positive changes over this time frame. I love how they have a natural foods section and that's where I buy most of my groceries. This section has a great selection of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free foods. Actually, everything throughout the store is labeled if it is gluten free. I can't tell you how helpful this is. Being able to know your food is safe without spending tons of time looking at labels is great. They also carry this brand called "BFree" that sells gluten free and vegan sliced bread, rolls, bagels, and tortillas. I was shocked when I saw this bread stand in the bakery! I have never seen a grocery store sell gluten free bread that wasn't frozen, not even Sprouts or Whole Foods. I am so impressed by this store and their willingness to stock different types of food to accommodate different diets. I also think their staff is great. I'm a sucker for great customer service and I feel they really go above and beyond at this store. They always greet me with a smile and ask if I need anything. I have time and time again been given a deal on a substitute when they were out of the item or brand I wanted (ie. given organic eggplants for the non-organic price, given a buy one get one free feta cheese, etc.). The staff is also knowledgeable. One example is the time I was looking for mizithra cheese. The staff immediately knew what I was talking about and though they did not have any, were able to offer me suggestions for a substitute. I went to 4 other grocery stores that day looking for that cheese and nobody working at these stores had ever heard of it. The reason I don't give them 5 stars is because their produce isn't the freshest and I have been disappointed many times. I've come home and cut open an onion to reveal mold. Fresh fruits and veggies are an important part of my grocery shopping so this is a bummer. Additionally, there seems to be a problem with the freezer in the natural foods section. I noticed all the boxes were soft and wet so I notified the manager that the freezer turned off. He promptly checked out the situation and confirmed the freezer was back on. But months later I noticed that the boxes in that freezer appeared wrinkled the way they do when they are defrosted and then frozen again. The freezer problem is definitely less severe than the produce problem but I think it's worth mentioning. All in all, this is a really great store. If they get fresher fruits and veggies and fix that freezer, it's 5 stars all the way!
