  • I live in an up and coming little neighborhood in Phoenix, AZ called Melrose. There are many choices to shop for groceries in this growing city. I gave the Fry's Market at 744 W. Camelback Rd., many chances to prove itself a worthy shopping experience. Safety is a huge problem and what's worse, I don't think the management is concerned with it. Not once...but, twice within a two week period, there was an altercation where my own safety and the safety of a loved one were threatened. About six weeks ago, I was entering the store when an angry transient who was caught trying to shoplift alcohol, became violent, throwing a punch at an employee named Tyler and, lashing out at the elderly security guard. The man (the transient) threw a cup of liquid (not sure what is was) in the direction of the guard and because I was in the store entry where this took place, I was also doused with it. No one in the store called authorities. I did, and I waited for them to arrive. An employee came to the scene and barked out to another employee to, "clean this (the liquid) up." I wasn't sure but, it could have been the manager. He did NOT inquire about whether or not anyone was hurt, did not make contact with his security guard and did not, express concern in any way, shape or form about the incident. I was stunned! Days later, my partner went to that same store to shop, when she was faced with a police officer wrestling a young girl to the ground inside the store. Stunned customers looked on while she (my partner) announced that she was off-duty law enforcement, and jumped in to help the officer take the girl into custody. Again, unbelievably, NO ONE from management ever made contact with anyone who witnessed this, nor did anyone acknowledge the event. As the manager of a store where a major confrontation has taken place, would you not make apologies or just make sure all in the vicinity were ok? We have spread the word in our very tight knit community, that this store should be avoided. We have choices, and until this place cleans up their act, we will utilize other options.
