| - I am a graduate of Nevada Career Institute. I signed up for Massage Therapy in April 2016, and graduated November 2016. By the end of November 2016, I passed my MBLex on the first try. 4 months after graduating, I waited for my massage license to arrive in the mail. Today I am now employed as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
For the first 5 months, I had Instructor Michelle. She believed in me and praised me for being very diligent and having high scores for the tests, quizzes, exams. Her lesson plan revolved around knowing your stuff based on the textbooks. She taught me the basic hands on techniques, and for 5 months I practiced hands on with only those techniques and with the client on the table face down- I liked to ask many questions to broaden my education, but asking her did not help so much. 5 months along the program, she said her usual warm goodbye, 'see y'all tomorrow.'
The next morning, she was no longer there, and we had a new teacher. Ms. Sandee was my instructor for the remainder of my time in the program. I did very much like her new structure, where she based the quizzes on potential mblex questions. It threw me off compared to what I was previously studying. Unfortunately, I felt like I didn't learn enough or even intellectually stimulated. We had coloring books, field trips to spas, long stories, etc. It was not my kind of studying style, and it took alot of time away for me to study for my mblex.
I am a very independent student. I worked very hard to pass and prepare for my future. When I started, there were about 15 students. Many have dropped out or failed. When I left for extern, there were 4 students left. The school is not perfect. The students are very ghetto and I couldn't stand to be around them. Front desk, financial aid, they were rude to me I never liked talking to them. Even the director does not acknowledge me despite being one of the students that passed and became succesful. But what matters to me the most is that I was able to pass and become licensed. I owe it to the school for making it possible for me to join a new health care field.
My stars given are for both my instructors Sandee and Brian, I respect them very much and intend to keep in touch with them for life. Career Services rep Erin keeps in touch with me, although I haven't used her as a resource yet. I'm very fond of her and happy I met her.
As I said, I am an independent student. As for recommending this school to others, I can only recommend this school to people who are hard working students. Because if you don't work hard for your future, of course your investment made to this school will be a waste.
Despite the interruption of the lesson plan and having teachers replaced, I still graduated and became state board licensed. I am most grateful that the school paid for my MBLex fee, and my state board license fee. This is not a bad school.
