  • I rented and paid for a rental car online through Hotwire/Alamo with my debit card last week (including the insurance) I needed a rental car because I was planning on getting work done on my car and needed transportation. I dropped of my car at the mechanics yesterday and this morning I took an uber to the airport to pick up the rental. I waited in line for my rental, but to my dismay when I got to the front of the line they told me I needed a credit card to release the car. I told them I did not have one, but they could hold any amount they needed for incidentals on my debit card. I rented cars before ( at Hertz) and they were always able to hold a certain amount on my debit card and released the amount after I returned the car. (Usually $300-$500) I already bought/paid for their insurance so if anything happened I was covered. They told me they have strict rules that they can only use debit cards if I was flying from out of state and have a flight number coinciding with my car rental. I now have to call my fiancĂ© to come pick me up from the airport, transfer his name to the rental car agreement, they are going to charge me an additional $50 bucks to do that or lose my money because I rented through Hotwire and there is a no refund or cancelation policy. I will never rent through Alamo ever again. Always use Hertz they are more flexible.
