My husband and I wanted to head to Vegas, but stay off the strip. Found a great deal on Hotwire for under $100/day, so took a chance despite mixed reviews of this resort. It's about a 25-30 minute ride from McCarren airport and the resort has a very sporadic shuttle to/from resort. Hotel is nice on the outside and appears very updated. Heading inside, totally different story. It is pretty dated in the inside and the smell of smoke wafting from the casino is pretty strong. Check in was pretty easy and the front desk staff was nice. We were informed that the king bed room I reserved was "sold out" and that we "might be able to move the next day if there is availability." Um, what?! I like to get what I pay for! Room was dated and dark, the bathroom is spacious, but had mildew in the shower and the tub had (gasp) pubic hair in it. The housekeeping is NOT good at this resort. We had room service multiple times there. The pizza was actually good. Everything else was mediocre at best. The pool is nice (not heated, as advertised) and the hours are sad (10-4 even though weather was nice!) Good luck getting a drink from the cocktail waitresses at the pool. There was 1 for the entire pool. Bartender at the Sandbar was awesome!! I think her name is Taylar. She was the most personable bartender and her passion fruit shots are the bomb! Multiple restaurants there with crappy hours and overpriced. Ridiculously high resort fee ($40/day). This place is trying to keep up with the high end resorts of the strip in an attempt to pilfer customers, but you're better off spending a few more bucks for clean, updated rooms with a much better location.
