This review is a long time coming, so maybe the store has changed. I visited once after the owner's first appearance on Cupcake Wars. I was looking forward to trying one of her cupcakes and was disappointed when the restaurant was unusually warm and was filled with flies. I noticed that all the cupcake holder/plates that are featured in the photo section as "pastry case" were uncovered so that flies were landing on many of the displayed cupcakes while many of the staff stood around in a daze. It was unappealing and the cupcakes looked dried out as well.
Fortunately there was a larger, sealed display case with shelves, but it had a smaller variety. I chose a flavor (lemon) that was less appealing simply because I didn't want my dessert to have been exposed to farm flies. It took some effort to get attention from the staff and a girl begrudgingly helped me. After several requests, I got a "to go" container.
The cupcake was good enough and moist enough and the price wasn't bad for a cupcake these days. I wouldn't say that it lived up to my expectations. The frosting had almost a floral or pledge-like note, and while I tolerate butter in buttercreams, you can actually see the oily sheen of butter in the swirls of the Shop's cupcakes. I realize that this is a personal preference and that most people really like lots of butter in their confections so you can take this criticism with a grain of salt. In spite of the floral, stick of butter taste, I appreciated that the frosting job was very cute. The store itself was cute too. Hopefully the A/C works better now and my experience was an anomaly.
