  • I stayed at Canadiana for 3 nights over the summer and as a hostel newbie, I have to say they met and exceeded my expectations completely! This place is legit cheap if you are on a budget but when you are there it won't feel like skimping at all! Location cannot be beat. It is in the heart of practically everything and just a short walk to whatever isn't right next door. It gets a huge plus bordering neighborhoods that are not only awesome to check out during the day, but alive and happening during the night, no matter what day of the week. The hostel itself is as warm and welcoming as it can get. I knew it the moment I set foot inside and I can absolutely back that up now after staying in a couple different hostels since. The warm wood interior, soft lights (no creepy florescent lighting to be found here! whew) friendly staff and awesomely huge message board make you feel like you've come to the right place and are already enjoying your trip, even though you've just gotten in. There are a few different common areas, all really nicely laid out with ample seating options. You get a pancake breakfast served community style every morning, during which coffee is free too, woo. The rooms. Awesome! Unusually comfy mattresses and super clean. Also they are open bunks so you don't get a feeling of claustrophobia as with other places where they put you in some type of little cell... o_0 Anyway, again there is nice lighting and no creepy florescent crap. The bathrooms are all communal BUT they are entirely private as in you get a toilet, sink and shower all in the same space and a lock on the door while you're in there. No dorm type stuff where you have 3 sinks and end up brushing your teeth next to 2 other people. I really appreciated that. And they are kept very clean. Not once did I walk in and feel the need to alert housekeeping before I'd use it. Just be sensible and bring flip flops for the shower! In your room you get ample outlets for electronics and a storage locker for which you can bring your own lock or buy one at the front desk for $5. Lastly, it has great ambiance. Not an ounce of creepy to be found here. Strangers chatting each other up, foreign languages being spoken, groups of friends hanging out in the lounge. It really felt like what you see in the movies when a hostel is depicted. A place where a sense of adventure and possibility lives. I would absolutely stay there again in either the dorm or private rooms.
