  • After a lot of company one of my toilets was solidly plugged and I wasn't able to clear it with a plunger or any of the other internet tricks. The water wasn't clearing at all except to come up in the shower. I spent a couple of hours reading reviews on different plumbers and chose to call Before and After Plumbing. I usually look for someone with many reviews but I liked the three they had and the reviewers seemed competent when I researched them and I liked what they had to say. I liked that the owner used his face instead of a logo to represent his company. I also liked that he is a small business owner and I prefer to support small business and someone on the west side. When I called he told me they do not charge to come out to estimate a job but he, from the description of the job, gave me a range of $370 to $500 on the phone. Richard arrived the next morning, in the middle of the two hour window. He was pleasant and easy to talk to but also has over 30 years of experience as a plumber. He was neat and organized and explained what he was doing each step of the way and what he was looking for. He also gave me an easy trade tip about root prevention, which I appreciated. At the end of the job the toilet was back on and caulked, and the bathroom was put back together like he found it. While discussing the job he gave me another trade tip on cast iron pipes and low flush toilets. He then checked another toilet in our house that came up in our discussion about low flush toilets. He tweaked a line in the toilet and replaced the flapper, he said it was sticking but I didn't notice it until after he replaced it and it was working smoothly. To finish up, the bill came to $374.80, which is the low end of what they had quoted. It comes with a 120 day warranty that includes one free cleaning if necessary. There was no charge for the extra time and the part for the second toilet. According to Richard it is just the owner and himself. He loves working for the owner and says he is "a stickler for honesty". I certainly feel confident giving their name to anyone who is in need of a plumber.
