  • I confess, I am not very knowledgeable about architecture and I am not that familiar with much of FLLW's work (he uses both the L's in Lloyd we were told). However, with a free few hours today, I decided to check out Talliesin West. I am so glad I did. Yes, it is a bit pricey at $32 for a 90 min tour, but it was well worth it, especially if you love history and/or architecture. One of the coolest parts about this site is that it is not a museum. You get to touch the history, and I loved that--I sat at the table in his office, in one of the chairs in his living room, perched on the edge of his wife's bed, and sat in the theater and also in the dinner cabaret room. We could also see in the studio currently used by the architecture school and that was cool (what a fascinating place to go to school (they live, eat, sleep and study on the site), and apparently only a few students each year are given that privilege). The architecture was of course very interesting, the grounds were lovely, and the stories held my attention. My interest has been piqued and now I want to see other of his sites and read more about his life. If you are in the area, I think this is a must-see.
