  • The purchase of the 2014 Camaro was one of the worst experiences I've had this year thanks in large part to a member of BL's staff; Pat (Sales Manager/Advisor/Haggler-In-Chief?). He was condescending, intimidating and stubborn. I spent over 8 hours at your facility on 2/19 thanks to his "sales style" and his reluctance to negotiate on said Camaro. In contrast, my immediate Sales Manager; Bill Moriaty was courteous, very personable and should be commended for his negotiating style and patience with Pat. On 2/18, I specifically requested a Sales Manager to facilitate my purchase experience on the Camaro. In anticipation of my visit on 2/19 I asked that the car be cleaned and moved off the lot in order that it be ready for a test drive and a pre-purchase inspection. My wife and I arrived at approximately 10:30am on 2/19 to inspect and test drive the Camaro. Bill Moriaty was there and even called in advance of our arrival to ensure that he would be ready for us. As I mentioned above, he was very friendly and anxious to help us with our buying experience. Unfortunately, Pat was quite the opposite. While he extended a handshake, he came across as very passive aggressive and immediately presented a roadblock on our buying journey. My initial offer was conveyed to Bill who in turn ran my offer by Pat who informed us that he was already at the "red line" with the Camaro. My offer was within reason of the asking price and when it was refused, thus began an afternoon of agony and frustration. Upon completion of the pre-purchase inspection by Sun Devil Auto, I was informed that the brake pads on the Camaro were at the the end of their life span. Sun Devil Auto informed me that they were at less than 3mm and required immediate attention. When I returned to Bill Luke, Pat insisted on having his mechanics inspect the brakes for verification. The mechanics indicated the brake pads still had a useful amount of material left on them; in the neighborhood of 60-70% of usable wear. This completely contradicted what the third party advised and put me in a difficult and uncomfortable situation. The estimate I received from Sun Devil Auto was close to $1,000 for a brake job. When this was relayed to Pat, he stonewalled and said he knew the owner of Sun Devil Auto and that he had to go with his mechanic's estimation. He was completely unwilling to move on the price of the Camaro. Mr. Moriaty made several attempts with Pat at negotiating on the vehicle's price and factoring in what I would have to spend for a brake job. Again, Bill should be commended on the numerous trips and attempts at negotiation with "Hardball Pat." As the end of the day drew near (again, I was there from 10:30 till close 6:30), I refused to give ground on my offer and was in the process of summoning an Uber ride as Mr. Moriaty made one last attempt to run my offer by Pat. By this time my wife had to leave to pick up our twin 9-year old boys from school (let it be noted that I took the day off from work to buy the vehicle). Bill returned to inform me that Pat accepted my "out the door" offer and we proceeded to finalize the transaction. My previous auto purchase was on Craigslist and this last experience reminds me why I should have stuck with Craigslist. I want to also note that I had to spend over $50 for an additional key FOB as Bill Luke only had one key for the vehicle. Also, I was stuck with procuring a tonneau cover which was missing from the car. Bill Luke made no attempt to even meet me halfway on either item above. Thankfully, I was able to find a tonneau cover on Craigslist for a "reasonable" sum ($150). In addition, I purchased an additional warranty through Brandon (who was great by the way) which has a $100 "disappearing deductible" if I obtain service at a non-Chrysler/Dodge dealership. The experience I had at Bill Luke was so corrosive, I'm willing to pay the $100 deductible at Chapman Chevrolet just so I don't have to make a trip to BL or any other Chrysler/Dodge dealership going forward. In summary, I spent 8 hours of my valuable time negotiating a few hundred dollars on a vehicle that I'd been wanting since 2010. What should have been a day filled with excitement and anticipation was instead filled with dread, anxiety, exhaustion and disappointment. In life, few things are certain; death, taxes and my determination to never buy another vehicle from Bill Luke.
