I am not a museum person by any means, but it was 13degrees F outside and I wanted to do something indoors, so my boyfriend and I came here. Having said that, I was so surprised at how much I LOVED this museum. We paid $15 to see the Chagall exhibit and it was fantastic. We spent about 2-3 hours exploring the first 3 floors of the museum, which we were informed was free to the public (closes at 5PM). Then we headed to the Chagall Exhibition, which closed at 9PM. This was the first museum where I was curious about the story behind a lot of the pieces. I have a newfound appreciation for art after spending about 4 hours here. I can't recommend the Chagall Exhibition enough. I learned so much about Chagall's artwork, but I also felt like I learned a lot about him as a person. The music was a wonderful addition to the exhibit; I enjoyed the visual and auditory stimulation. I left the exhibit in absolute awe. How can one person be so talented???! The piece that resonated with me the most was the "Self-portrait with Seven Fingers". I love the intermingling between Chagall's artwork and his culture. I remember I kept thinking, "Why seven fingers??". I learned that to do something with seven fingers, in the Yiddish culture, means to do it with all of your heart. I still can't explain why, but I was very inspired by this message... Perhaps it was because I could feel how much Chagall loved what he was doing through his artwork.
Thank you Montreal Museum of Fine Arts for the enriching learning experience!
PS. Why are the prices different for people 31+?? Just curious.
