I really think Mark Burnett really missed his chance with a great reality show about Calgary's infamous Farmers Market. Who knew farmers could also produce drama? It seems like this market is in the papers every other week. Whether they are fighting with their vendors, fending off protesters or fighting with the media themselves.
Besides Speidi-sized fights, this market does have some great choices. Simple Simon Pies and Phil & Sebastians immediately come to mind. But the best thing about a farmers market is that everyone can have their very own favourites.
Avoid going there for breakfast, it can end up being really expensive especially when you consider its location. Plus the fruits and veggies aren't as cheap as you might think. Sometimes I think vendors are taking advantage of the "farmers market" price association.
Sadly, this location will be closing in December and opening in a new location next Spring. Vendors are also using this opportunity to get our of their contracts and new markets are opening all over the city. More markets, more choices, what's wrong with that?
