I cringed when I booked this room through Hotwire, but in some ways, I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Check-in was okay; we tried to check in around 11:30, but we were gonna get charged $20 for early check-in. We dropped our bags off at the bell desk, went out, and came back around 1:30, when our room was ready. We got a basic room. but it was a corner unit, so it was a little bigger than expected. It was a nice room: it was nicely decorated, had a flat screen HDTV, an iPod dock, and a comfy bed. It didn't have a fridge, which would've been nice. The resort fee includes wi-fi, which was reliable.
The casino is on the smaller side. They try to pump a fragrance the same way Trump does, but it doesn't really mask the cigarette smoke. There are walkways to the nearby resorts, which is great because there isn't a lot of dining options in the Tropicana. There's a Starbucks, a tiny food court, a couple of nicer restaurants, and a 24 hour cafe tucked behind the casino. The elevators are pretty slow. And the in-TV menu didn't work.
Overall, it was a good place to stay for the price. I'd consider staying here if I need an inexpensive option on the Strip, but for nicer amenities, I'll stay elsewhere.
