  • Hubby and I almost always stay at the "Riv". Sure, it's not the most updated hotel but that is the charm! I agree with some of these reviews, if you are expecting a high class joint, then this hotel is not for you. But for the price you can't beat it. We always stay in the Monaco Tower and we have never had issues. Although we have stayed in other hotels on the strip, The Riviera is the one we always come back to. You can't beat the minimum bets (because who the heck wants to play $25-35 min bets at other casinos, that are so packed you can't freakin breathe! ?!?) well certainly not us. We also enjoy that even on super packed weekends, we can sit at the bar and order good drinks for 1/2 the costs of those at other places. If you are into the club scene (or you are a twenty- something year old dressing in you underwear to hit the clubs) then this place is not for you, REPEAT, this place is not for you. You will not find clubs at this hotel, but f you are done with all the club "hype" then come on in and stay awhile. Like I said, you cannot beat the prices, the game variety, the table minimums, and the drinks. The restaurants are not bad either (but let me save that for a later time). The crowd is mixed, you will find a bit of everyone in this hotel. All those people complaining about the smoke, well let me see...did you remember you are in Vegas? The smoking capital of the country? Ummmm..sorry cupcake but that comes with the territory. Sure it's smoky, ventilation is not like the new hotels., but it's not as bad as when you head to downtown. and lets remember this hotels has been around for 60 years so of course smoke is part of the deal. But in our room we have never NEVER had an issue with the smoke smell. Earlier I said I have never had a problem and I was not lying. We hit Vegas 2x a year and each time, the check in is a breeze, the staff is courteous and accommodating (even on last minute trips, I can always find a spot here). The parking structure probably needs a real updated because it is a bit scary, but they have security driving around so I don't freak out about that. This past weekend that we were there, we noticed that a lot of new hotels are being put up around , so i have a feeling sooner or later this part of town will start to pick up the pace, but I just hope the Riviera does not lose itself, because as old as it is, it has a rich history and its one of the last standing "original hotels".
